The album broke streaming records and surpassed Adele’s historic sales figures. Taylor Swift is unstoppable.
Taylor Swift’s new album, THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL, is now in its seventh week dominating the Billboard 200. This means that the record is currently in second place among the albums that have been at number one on the Billboard charts for the longest time in 2025. So far, Morgan Wallen’s I’M THE PROBLEM is in the top spot, which was in the top one for a total of eight weeks.
However, Taylor Swift has long been used to such high-profile successes. Her previous work THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT was at number one on the Billboard 200 for a full twelve weeks. The American singer can look back on a total of 15 number one albums.
Worldwide records for release
Immediately after its release, the LP broke global sales records. On the first day of release, THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL was the most streamed album of the year on Spotify. The first single “The Fate of Ophelia” became the most listened to song of a single day in the platform’s history – within just 18 hours.
The first week of sales was also successful like no other album before: for almost a decade, the British singer Adele held the record for the strongest sales week with her LP 25, released in 2015. The album sold a total of around 3.482 million times. THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL exceeded this value after just five days.
This is how the Billboard 200 works
The Billboard 200 charts list the most popular albums of the week in the United States. They represent an important reference for measuring the success of current artists. The basis for the listing is consumption figures, which consist of album sales, track and streaming figures. These are grouped into album units, which are determined by the data analysis company “Luminate”.
One unit is equal to one album sale, the sale of ten individual tracks from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription-based on-demand streams of official audio and video content from an album. With THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL there is no need to convert individual titles because no tracks can be purchased separately, reported “Billboard”.
