Angela de Jong is back as a TV butcher especially in honor of the SBS 6 debut of the hated reality star Monique Hansler. She goes all out on that woman. “Narcissistic bitch!”
It’s been a while since Angela de Jong went wild on a famous Dutch person, but today she can’t ignore it. A day after the SBS 6 debut of Monique Hansler, the headline of Angela’s column doesn’t exactly lie: ‘There is a new type of mother-in-law: the narcissistic bitch who belittles everyone who comes into her aura.’
Monster-in-law
Angela describes Monique in it A.D as ‘monster-in-law from hell’. “I didn’t find a description in the women’s magazine lists that did justice to all facets of her twisted character and bullying behavior. So may I introduce it here?”
She continues: “’Narcissistic bitch who belittles everyone who appears in her aura and emits a creepy laugh after every sentence that will send goosebumps from your toes to the top of your head within 2 seconds.’ A bit long perhaps, but it covers it all.”
Unsympathetic mutt
The soap about The Hanslers teaches us one thing, says Angela. “’Don’t become a Monique’ will probably suffice from now on. And the great thing is, it is the perfect life motto. Even for non-mothers-in-law.”
In this case, female columnist Hester Zitvast is on the same wavelength as the AD opinion diva. She writes down X: “What a rare unsympathetic brat Monique is. I regret every second I watch (and listen) to her.”
Dirty
Telegraaf journalist Jef Willemsen agrees. “Even if you know that everything in a reality series was invented by TV makers, De Hanslers still feels like a grubby, boring and like play. They miss the chemistry of the Meilandjes, the pathos of the Beavers and even Peter Gillis looks more sympathetic. Can this stop quickly?”, he says on X.
“It is indeed sometimes said that irritation is also entertainment and that people watch to be annoyed. But with this program the balance is not (yet) right. Mother Mo waltzes over everything and everyone, as if you are watching a Godzilla movie without heroes.”
How’s the score?
What were the viewing figures like? Fine, Tina Nijkamp writes on her analysis channel. “The Hanslers score lower than De Meilandjes, BUT… the damage is not too bad. About 100,000 fewer viewers. And it must be said: for the viewer it was a delight: what an incredibly mean mother-in-law. Unprecedented.”
730,000 people watched it, good for a 13 percent market share in the commercial target group. “An OK to excellent start. Also striking in the show: Mike and Denise hardly looked at each other. Was that relationship only for the stage at that time?”
