Artist Lauri Haav, 27, tells Friday Just life – episode about his mental health diagnosis. The episode is already available on the paid Ruutu+ service.

– Only in the next few years have I received answers as to why things are the way they are. I was diagnosed with a mental illness like OCD some time ago, Haav reveals in the program’s mental health-themed episode.

OCD, or obsessive compulsive disorder, is a psychiatric disorder classified as an anxiety disorder.

Haav says in the episode that people think that OCD is manifested by, for example, observing household appliances. In Haavi’s case, the disorder has manifested itself, according to his own words, “for a long time between the ears” in the form of obsessive thoughts.

– At the point when it takes away the ability to work and the joy of living, we start talking about a more serious illness. I’ve been to that place many times. The last time I was there was last summer, says Haav.

Haav says that during the worst time, his loved ones took him to the circle of help. The artist says that he still has both good and bad days in his life.

At the same time, Haav says that he also realized that he and his work are important to many people.

– Even though I can’t bear responsibility for everything, I got the feeling that I was needed. If I don’t take care of myself, I can’t do this thing. That’s where building the foundation started, Haav tells his artist colleagues.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder includes Health Library including obsessive thoughts and actions that cause significant distress and interfere with everyday life and relationships.

The most common compulsions are, for example, compulsive doubt or fear of possible accidental things, sexually aggressive or religious compulsions, or fear of catching diseases in normal interaction situations. Obsessions can be accompanied by an oppressive fear of catastrophic consequences, such as serious harm to oneself or other people.
