DOW JONES–Price pressure at the producer level in the USA increased moderately in September. As the Ministry of Labor announced, producer prices rose by 0.3 percent compared to the previous month and were 2.7 (previous month: 2.6) percent above the level of the same month last year. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires had forecast a monthly price increase of 0.3 percent.

Core producer prices excluding the volatile prices of food and energy climbed by 0.3 percent compared to the previous month and increased by 2.6 (2.8) percent over the year. Economists had forecast a monthly increase of 0.2 percent.

Producer prices provide an early indication of inflation developments. As a rule, changes in producer prices sooner or later have an impact on retailers and thus on consumers.
