For FC Bayern, the duel with Arsenal FC will be the next determination of their position. Ex-Arsenal professional Moritz Volz classifies the game for t-online.
After the Champions League summit is before the Champions League summit. The 2-1 win over defending champions Paris Saint-Germain is followed by FC Bayern’s next duel with a title favorite in the premier class on Wednesday evening in London. The German record champions are visiting Arsenal FC. Just like Bayern, the “Gunners” started the competition flawlessly with four wins and are tied for second place in the table with the Munich team.
In the direct duel between the two currently strongest teams in Europe, first place is now at stake in the British capital. Even though he is not directly involved as assistant coach at 1899 Hoffenheim, Moritz Volz is looking with particular interest at the showdown between the two top clubs. After all, the 42-year-old turned professional at Arsenal and spent most of his career in the Premier League. In an interview with t-online, he talks about his former club’s duel with Bayern and explains what could be the deciding factor.
t-online: Mr. Volz, Uli Hoeneß sent FC Bayern into the competition in the summer as supposed outsiders and spoke at the time of “Hoffenheim in the Champions League”. How were these statements received by you and in Hoffenheim as a whole? Was that disrespectful?
Moritz Volz: For me, as a completely new Hoffenheim player who deals with a lot of things very calmly, that had little impact. I also didn’t have the feeling that my new colleagues internally felt attacked or insulted in any way, but rather that everyone knew how to assess that. If you look at market values, it may seem that English clubs are overpowering due to their purchasing power. In order to be successful with a team, healthy team hygiene is very important. All necessary roles must be filled, but must not be overstaffed. This is crucial for how well something fits together. Paris Saint-Germain is a good example of this.
