A 42-year-old man was convicted by the court in Den Bosch on Monday for attempting to rape a teacher at Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Eindhoven. The Bulgarian, who worked as a temporary worker in our country, received a prison sentence of two years and TBS with compulsory treatment.
He must also pay the victim compensation of more than 5,400 euros.
On May 30, 2024, the cocaine-addicted man entered the school building at Rachelsmolen, saw the employee walking and pushed her into a toilet cubicle. There he threatened the woman with a knife and demanded sex. The suspect pulled down his pants and groped the victim’s breasts. She eventually managed to escape, but was injured in one hand.
What was the man’s explanation?
Two hours later, the man was arrested on the balcony of an apartment at a care center. He was caught during a burglary. The man entered the house with an emergency hammer and started looking for valuables. He said during the hearing that he can no longer remember any of this. He may have been looking for goods to support his drug use, he thought.
When determining the sentence, the court takes into account, among other things, that the attempted rape was a very traumatic experience for the victim. She still suffers from this (mentally). In addition, the suspect was previously convicted in Germany, when it concerned thefts (with violence). He still has to serve a sentence and be tried for a similar offense as in Eindhoven.

The perpetrator suffers from schizophrenia
The fact that the Bulgarian is less accountable is also taken into account. According to a psychiatrist and a psychologist, the suspect suffers from schizophrenia and this influenced his behavior in May 2024. Because there is a high risk of recurrence without intensive treatment, the court imposes – in addition to the prison sentence – TBS with compulsory treatment.
On the day of the incident, it was first reported that a student had threatened a teacher with a knife. The teacher is said to have been injured. That turned out not to be true. What is true: the teacher turned out to be a random victim for the Bulgarian, they did not know each other.
The Public Prosecution Service (OM) had demanded three years of TBS. The suspect’s lawyer does not like TBS. Just like the Public Prosecution Service, the court also believes that TBS is necessary. “The court considers it irresponsible to release the suspect without treatment,” the ruling states. And that TBS treatment may last up to four years.
