And movie nights were held. These types of parties were probably organized regularly. “The owner was quite German-minded,” says researcher Gijsbers.

Mixed feelings among relatives

Relatives of the former hotel boss also viewed the images. “They found that painful and poignant,” says Van Dijl. He has contact with the grandchildren. “They got to know their grandfather, who received a heavy sentence after the war, as a nice man.”

But the family also thinks it is important that the images come out. “They also realize that these are special, historical images. But for them it is very ambiguous.”
