The bronze went to Marrit Fledderus (37.08). Anna Boersma emerged as number 4 (37.21) and finally Angel Daleman closed the list of Dutchmen. With her 37.28, Daleman even rose above the junior level. The time of the 18-year-old Essent rider meant a new world record for juniors.

Kok was happy with her fifteenth World Cup victory in the 500 meters, but was far from satisfied with her effort. “This was a worthless ride,” said the Frisian from Reggeborgh, who improved the world record last week (36.09). Even the Calgary track record (36.39) was not in the cards for Kok. “I was in a groove at the start,” she said NOS.

“That made it a false start. My opening was good, but the lap was not. But it doesn’t matter, I won again. Now back to Europe. We are going to Spain with the team for a training camp. Nice cycling in the sun, I’m looking forward to it.”

The fact that TeamNL filled the top 5 made Kok happy: “Super cool, right? Great for Dutch skating.”

Jennings the Boo falls short

As Dutch as the top 5 among women was, the top 5 among men was just as foreign. Jenning de Boo would have liked to follow teammate Kok’s example, but his 34.07 was only sufficient for fifth place. The world champion won in a direct duel against Olympic champion Tingyu Gao (34.18), but, he said: “The tank was a bit empty.”

The Boo was shocked by Gao after a false start. “It went away like a gun,” said the giant from Groningen. “That made me panic a bit. I have to work on that. Anyway, I did beat the Olympic champion.”

Jordan Stolz was once again in a class of his own: 33.79. The American phenomenon was followed by Damian Zurek (33.85) and Jun-Ho Kim (33.99). De Boo: “I am now going to Spain for a training camp. But first a steak. We’re going out for dinner with the team tonight. And then I’ll board the plane tomorrow with a good feeling. I look back on two successful first World Cups.”
