GENEVA/WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) – After a short statement together with the Ukrainian negotiator Andrij Jermak, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio wants to appear before the press again at a later date on Sunday. They intended to come back “in a few minutes, maybe in an hour or two,” the American said at the start of a brief appearance. “We will be in touch with you shortly with more information. I know you have questions,” he said. He promised to answer questions from journalists in the evening.
Rubio had announced changes to the peace plan to end the war in Ukraine after negotiations with Ukraine and its European supporters. A “very good work result was achieved, which is based on the contributions of all parties involved,” he said at a joint press conference with Jermak.
Jermak spoke of a “very productive” first meeting in which good progress was made. We are moving towards a just and lasting peace. According to him, final decisions will be made by “our presidents.” He thanked the USA and US President Donald Trump – who had previously accused Kiev of a lack of gratitude./ngu/DP/men
