It is the first time since the founding of SOS Dolfijn in 2006 that no animals have been taken care of this year. Usually the period from January to April is the busiest time of the year. In those months, most stranded porpoises are found along the coast and reported.

Not exactly a good sign

“There are currently no animals in our center,” says Sanne Hessing of SOS Dolfijn in Anna Paulowna. “Visitors often react with surprise or enthusiasm: Oh, how good! But is that actually so good?”

Hessing: “The first thought is of course, how nice, there are fewer sick animals. But we still have to be careful with that conclusion. With the increasing stress factors at sea, this is something we have to be alert to.” SOS Dolfijn is referring to fishing, wind farms and climate change.
