The North Germans have their first defeat of the season – against Magdeburg last weekend – handled it very well. At least for one night, the Flensburg team regained the lead in the table. However, the SCM, which hosts HSG Wetzlar on Saturday, has currently played two fewer games.

The Flensburg team had a bumpy start to the season with two draws. But all games in the European League were also won afterwards. Coach Aleš Pajovič and his team are doing a great job. The only downer in Kassel was a shoulder injury to Emil Jakobsen.

Flensburg dominates the first half…

After a high-scoring, balanced opening phase (4:4 after five minutes), Flensburg took control. Kent Robin Tönnesen completed a 5-0 run for the SG to make it 8-4 in the 10th minute. From Melsunger’s point of view, that was too easy, but the Schleswig-Holsteiners immediately retaliated. Three minutes later, Kristof Palasics had reduced the score to 8:9.

The game was now open. Flensburg couldn’t pull away again – and Nikolaj Enderleit equalized to 13:13 (25th). In the last minute before the break, Lukas Jörgensen at least gave SG a two-goal lead again (16:14). But Marco Grgic missed another chance.

… and confidently downplays his boot

Even after the break, Flensburg lacked a bit of consistency. Again and again they quickly squandered a two-goal lead, only to lead by two goals again a short time later. Particularly nice was the goal from pivot Johannes Golla against two opponents to make it 22:20 (40th).

But after a goal from goalkeeper Benjamin Buric and Emil Jakobsen from seven meters, the SG suddenly led again with 24:20 (43rd). Flensburg seemed to be able to pick up the pace at will. And Buric had his share, in the 48th the Bosnian recorded his tenth save. And even if the Hessians tried hard, they made too many mistakes. So the guests secured an overall safe victory.
