The controversial former Munich defender pays a visit to an old acquaintance. The club’s supporters don’t like it at all. But according to a report, the visit has another reason.
Jérôme Boateng has apparently landed another high-profile internship position after the failed internship at former club Bayern Munich: As “Sport Bild” reported on Friday, the former German international is completing a ten-day internship at FC Barcelona.
Boateng accompanied the coaching team around Hansi Flick, with whom he won numerous titles during their time together at FC Bayern. The stay was made possible through the connection to the former Munich coach.
On Thursday, Barça posted a video of Boateng on the training ground giving a warm welcome to Flick and ex-Bayern teammate Robert Lewandowski. But the reactions apparently weren’t as expected.
Because among the comments on Instagram there were numerous critical voices – all of which were based on his guilty verdict for assaulting his ex-girlfriend in 2024. “What the hell is he doing? Guys, do some research on him,” wrote one user, another said: “This guy doesn’t deserve a stage after everything he’s done,” said another. “Throw him off the premises,” wrote another user, while another said: “What a disappointment.”
It was precisely because of these allegations that the internship at FC Bayern did not take place. Coach Vincent Kompany and the German record champions had agreed to the project, but after public criticism from the active fan scene the project was not implemented. Boateng and the club canceled the project. Now he is apparently staying at FC Barcelona for a short time.
