The death toll from a new series of torrential rains, floods and landslides in Vietnam since the weekend has risen to 41, state media reported on Thursday. Over the past three days, more than 1,500 millimeters of rain fell in several parts of central Vietnam. The region is home to a major coffee production area and some of the country’s most popular beaches. The area is very vulnerable to storms and floods. More than half a million homes and businesses suffered power outages after electricity networks were damaged by the floods, the government said. The National Weather Forecast Service warned that more flooding and landslides are expected on Friday as heavy rain continues in the region.
