Amanda Seyfried seems pretty confident that Mamma Mia 3 will get made, and she still wants Sabrina Carpenter and Sydney Sweeney to star in the film.

“Mamma Mia 3” has not yet been officially confirmed, although there is reportedly already a script for the third ABBA jukebox musical. Entertainment Tonight recently asked Seyfried about the status of the film, with the reporter noting that producer Rita Wilson had just said the film was “not off the table.”

Seyfried replied that “Mamma Mia 3” is not only not off the table, but is actually “burning a hole in the table”. The actress noted that Wilson might be “reserved,” before adding, “Or maybe I’m just naive. But I’m pretty sure ‘Mamma Mia 3’ is a done deal.”

Sophie as mother

When asked what she would like for her character Sophie in a possible third film, Seyfried replied: “I love playing a mother, so I would like to see Sophie with her children.”

After saying last month that she would be happy to have Carpenter involved, Seyfried suggested that the pop star “could play a cousin who [Sophie] haven’t seen him for a long time. And then Sydney Sweeney might show up,” she added, referring to her recent co-star in “The Housemaid.” “There are a number of girls who want to be involved and I’m all for it.”

Speculation about the plot

Seyfried continued to speculate – perhaps half-jokingly, but perhaps quite realistically – about the plot of the third film. “All I know is that the three fathers will come back and we still won’t know who the father is because it doesn’t matter. Meryl [Streep] is obviously a ghost, so she’ll be there. And Julie [Walters] and Christine [Baranski] will come back and sing and look hot and we’ll all be somewhere tropical.”

Rumors about a third “Mamma Mia” film have been circulating for years. The first film (based on the hit stage musical of the same name) was released in 2008, while the sequel “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” was released in 2018.
