The Bayern Munich footballers have taken a big step towards the knockout phase in the Champions League. Coach José Barcala’s team won 3-1 (2-1) at Paris Saint-Germain on Thursday evening.
After the third win in the fourth game, the German double winner is at least almost certain of a ticket for the play-offs, and direct qualification for the quarter-finals is still within reach.
“The second half was a little shaky, but overall we are very happy,” said Georgia Stanway on “Disney+”. Pernille Harder added: “That was so important, we fought hard. I’m very happy.”
Linda Dallmann (17th), Momoko Tanikawa (35th) and Jovana Damnjanovic (89th) ensured the ninth competitive win in a row. After the 3-2 spectacle after being 2-0 down against defending champions FC Arsenal the previous week, the Munich team traveled to Paris with the wind at their back and now picked up the pace there.
With nine points in their account, Bayern are in a very good position to progress ahead of the two remaining games in the league phase. Meanwhile, despite Sakina Karchaoui’s goal (16th), the French women still have to wait for their first points in the premier class.
In the Prinzenpark, the Munich women dominated the initial phase and did not let the early setback upset them – Dallmann’s answer followed immediately. The Bundesliga leaders then kept the pressure high. After preparatory work by national player Klara Bühl, Tanikawa scored, whose powerful shot was deflected under the crossbar, worth seeing.
Even after the break, the Munich team largely had the game under control, but became increasingly passive. Paris sensed their chance, Pernille Harder, on the other hand, missed the preliminary decision in favor of the guests in the final phase and hit the crossbar (73′). PSG tried to score an equalizer. Bayern held out before Damnjanovic made the decision.
