Here we can quote the self-description of Moritz Friedrich aka Siriusmo: “I’m a complete band. Nobody really knows their instrument, but everyone acts as if – always with the fear that the others might notice.” BULETTEN UND BLUMEN is Siriusmo’s fourth album on the label of Modeselektor, their friends from Monkeytown. Since COMIC (2017), the Berlin producer and remixer has not made any musical statements via a long player there.

This music sometimes smells like meatballs

Let’s get into this carnal pleasure with an explanatory piece on beats: “That Could Function As A Song”. A powerful electrofunk track with a few manipulated voices at the beginning and chattering old-school basses. What Siriusmo follows is a collection of variations and comments, sometimes house-oriented, sometimes disco-oriented (“Ok So”).

“The Synthesizer Has Been Drinking” heeled like an incorrectly loaded steamer, with breakbeats Siriusmo found himself “in a bind”. And “Lehm” featuring Erobique and Dana, a new version of Claire Waldoff’s Berlin classic, sounds like an excerpt from a Nina Hagen hit sung behind the electronics counter: “Whoever throws clay there should be damned.” This music sometimes smells like meatballs. Thanks for the flowers anyway.
