Noel Gallagher remembered funny mani story

Noel Gallagher has not yet commented. Just like his brother, he has a lot in common with the late musician. He recalled to the “NME“ once about how he spent the night in an illegal club in the Hulme district – the legendary “Kitchen” – at the end of the 1980s. “I remember passing a guy a joint all night long one night and when the sun came up I saw it was Mani and thought, ‘Wow!’ This guy, widely considered to be a member of the biggest band in the country, was at an illegal house party at 7 a.m. and looked just like me. That gave me so much confidence in her [The Stone Roses] Given,” said Gallagher at the time.

Mani is dead: colleagues mourn

Several other colleagues from the British music scene also mourn the bassist. The Stone Roses singer Ian Brown wrote “Rest in peace Mani X”.

Rowetta from the Happy Mondays remembered Mani and his late wife Imelda and sent “all my love to the boys”. Echo & The Bunnymen frontman Ian McCulloch was “absolutely shocked” and spoke of a “bad dream”. Tim Burgess shared a photo of the two and called Mani “one of the absolute best.” Shaun Ryder expressed his condolences especially to the twin sons. Music journalist John Robb praised Mani as “the soul of the Stone Roses”.
