The last two of the 48 starting places for next year’s World Cup will be awarded at a qualifying tournament in the Mexican cities of Guadalajara and Monterrey. As the world association FIFA announced, six teams from five confederations will fight in the two locations from March 23rd to 31st, 2026 for the remaining tickets for the final tournament next summer. The national teams are from Iraq, Democratic Republic of Congo, Jamaica, Suriname, Bolivia and New Caledonia.
The draw for the intercontinental playoffs for the World Cup will take place this Thursday from 1:00 p.m. at FIFA headquarters in Zurich. The schedule for the tournament with two groups of three will be published afterwards. The World Cup finals will be drawn on December 5th in Washington in the USA, with the opening game kicking off on June 11th, 2026 in Mexico City.
