Tarjei Bø looks forward to the end of his biathlon career with positive feelings.
Last March, things got very emotional at Holmenkollen in Oslo. Together with his brother Johannes Thingnes, Tarjei Bø said goodbye to biathlon retirement on the sidelines of the season finale.
The twelve-time world champion feels comfortable in his new life.
“I have no regrets about stopping sport. In recent years, training in the summer has never been my favorite. When you get older and you’ve done it so many times, you think: ‘I want a real summer holiday’. This year I had one for the first time. It feels completely right,” said Bø in an interview with the International Biathlon Federation IBU.
“You can start the day with a coffee and you don’t have to follow nutrition plans for training. You can take your children to kindergarten and lead a normal life. I missed that,” revealed the Norwegian.
The 37-year-old continues to be active in sports in his free time and plays football like his younger brother Johannes Thingnes.
Legendary biathlon career
In his biathlon career, Bø celebrated numerous successes, including twelve world championship titles, three Olympic victories and triumph in the overall World Cup.
“I think it’s a great feeling to be an athlete. We’re lucky to be living our dream and doing it as our job. But at the same time, you can never really relax, even on a day off. The day off is also planned,” said the Scandinavian, looking back on his active career.
Bø now enjoys having more time for friends and family. “Everyone no longer has to adapt their lives to my life as an athlete, but now they can come first and I can adapt to them,” said the winter sports icon.
