In the end, Antony didn’t move to Munich. Vincent Kompany contacted the Brazilian personally.

FC Bayern wanted to lure the Brazilian Antony to the Isar in the final transfer spurt of the summer. The winger said back in September that he had spoken to Bayern. Now, in an interview with “ge.globo.com”, he specified what exactly this contact looked like and that coach Vincent Kompany contacted him personally.

“We spoke to each other, he was super polite and said he’s always been a big fan of the way I play – it was all the day before deadline day around 11pm,” said the 25-year-old.

Antony has been under contract with Betis Sevilla since September. The offensive player was previously at Manchester United and on loan to the Spanish club. Rejecting Kompany was not easy for the Brazilian international, as he further admitted.

“It was the last day of our negotiations with Betis and the call came from Bayern. I’ll tell you quite frankly: I really hesitated. We’re talking about a huge world club, Bayern Munich. And we’re talking about Kompany, a coach with an impressive history, who called me personally.”

But Antony is someone who keeps his promises. Already in September, he said on the radio station “El Partidazo de Cope” with reference to the salary offered by Bayern: “I don’t know if it was seven million, but I said I had Betis’ word and that the matter was 95 percent settled and that I would keep my word.”

Now Antony added: “The decision was largely a family one. It is a place where I feel very comfortable and where I feel everyone’s love.” Instead, Bayern signed striker Nicolas Jackson, who has made twelve appearances so far.
