After a mixed start to the season, Hertha BSC’s defense is one of the main reasons why the Old Lady has gotten back on track. Linus Gechter, who, according to the “Bild” newspaper, was recently linked to Bundesliga clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, is partly responsible for this. The paper is now reporting, citing its own information, that the 21-year-old defender is being closely monitored by the Italian first division club Como.
Gechter started the season in central defense, but after a few games he was deployed on the right side of defense. There, the homegrown player impresses with great commitment, strength in duels and a good passing game. Márton Dárdai and Toni Leistner are in the center of defense for the capital city team. With ten goals conceded after twelve match days, Hertha has the best defense in the 2nd Bundesliga behind Schalke (7).
According to the “Bild” report, Como has already sent scouts several times to observe Gechter. The Berlin native is said to have left a lasting impression on the Italians. In the summer of 2024, Marc Oliver Kempf moved from Hertha to Como for 2.5 million euros, who is a regular in central defense this season.
Either way, the competition from the Italians with Kempf, Diego Carlos, Jacobo Ramón and Stefan Posch would be great, because Cesc Fàbregas has the seventh-place team playing a 4-2-3-1. Gechter, whose market value is 2.5 million euros, is tied to Berlin until 2027. He is currently suffering from thigh problems, which is why he had to cancel the U21 international matches against Malta and Georgia.
