Two months earlier, Lil Nas X, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, was arrested for attacking police officers during a nighttime nude walk. According to Billboard, the public prosecutor’s office subsequently filed charges with four crimes, including three cases of physical violence against police officers and resisting a law enforcement officer.
Lil Nas X had already pleaded not guilty in court on August 25th. He was then released on $75,000 bail. Attending therapy was part of the court’s requirements. His father had previously stated that his son was suffering from mental health issues at the time of the incident.
“Montero is doing great”
“As you can see, Montero is doing great and we are very happy for him,” the rapper’s attorney, Drew Findling, told the assembled press after the hearing, according to Billboard. “We look forward to a positive outcome to this process, which we are firmly convinced of.”
Follow-up date in March 2026
During the hearing, Judge Alan Schneider simply signed some paperwork and set a follow-up date for March 12, 2026.
The outcome of the proceedings is still open. As Billboard reported, a positive verdict for Lil Nas California law allows prosecutors in certain cases to withdraw criminal charges in favor of court-supervised psychiatric treatment. This could also be an option for Lil Nas X.
Debate about media sensationalism
The musician was taken into police custody in Los Angeles on August 21, 2025. According to police, he had previously been walking naked on Ventura Boulevard. When officers tried to stop him, he allegedly became violent. According to the Los Angeles Police Department, three police officers were injured.
Police initially took Lil Nas X to the hospital before arresting him on suspicion of possible drug use. Videos and images of the incident, showing the artist in underwear and white cowboy boots, were published by TMZ and sparked a debate about respect and decency.
