Francis van Broekhuizen’s debut at the table at Today Inside produces mixed reactions. What does Victor Vlam, known as a VI expert, think about it? “The downside is that she is very busy.”
Francis van Broekhuizen has been on many talk shows, but she has never been on Today Inside. Until last night then. “This is the only talk show program that I have not yet attended. Not so much lately, because I no longer try to attend all the talk shows, but I did enjoy it once,” she says in VI.
Annoying aunt
Why did Francis change tack? “I was with you on the podcast, and then you said: ‘That you are sitting here because you were angry with us, right?’ Well, I was a little offended for a moment, but I think you should never stay angry for long. You also have to be able to restart and I had never been here before. I thought: then they can see me up close.”
What was one of Johan Derksen’s offending statements? The following: “That singer is up for anything, isn’t she? Even if you go down in the dumps, she will still show up. What an irritating aunt she is.”
Not surprising
Was Francis really pissed off about this? “I was even more concerned about that Humberto broadcast. I don’t think you guys are that crazy about that. It came from De Efteling and then I explained something about classical music and that was not fully appreciated by both gentlemen. Then I thought: yes, why is that being criticized like that?”
“Because I just do my best there, I know everything about it from my profession. I thought: they can laugh about it, but they just don’t understand it. That’s not a big deal, you don’t have to understand it all, but then you don’t have to complain about it either, I thought. But that’s the specialty, I understood that later.”
Spontaneous woman
Johan remains critical of Francis. “The first time I saw her she was a nice, outgoing woman and it blew her mind, but at a certain point it became a bit too much and she became an annoying, domineering woman.”
Francis: “I think it’s so nice that you say that every night on TV, you guys. You’re also on TV every night, right? I think that’s so funny.”
Johan: “Yes, but I won’t sit anywhere else anymore.”
Wilfred Genee laughing: “Yes, that’s not possible! Because you’re already busy every evening!”
Something rotten
When Francis indicates a little later that she likes it at VI, Johan comments: “We all like having you there too.”
Francis then: “Oh, well, thank you. And what bad thing are you going to say about me tomorrow?”
Finally: what does VI expert Victor Vlam think? He says: “Francis van Broekhuizen is an experiment from #todayinside on an evening when the Dutch national team is playing and the viewing figures are a bit lower. Her disadvantage is that she is very busy – VERY BUSY – and almost takes over the show.”
But, he concludes: “I would also give her a second chance.”
