A local resident calls the illegal fireworks ‘very scary’. “You don’t want to think about something like that exploding.” Another local resident agrees. “Then the entire block will be gone.”

A video from the Dutch Forensic Institute illustrates what happens when a car containing 60 cobras, a fraction of what was found in the shed, is detonated. The rear and top of the car are largely destroyed.

The fact that a 15-year-old boy has such heavy fireworks in the shed surprises local residents. “Where are you as a parent? You have to find that out, right? And how does that young stuff get that money?” Another: “They’re getting younger. So yes, the end is lost here: stabbings and now those cobras.”

Worrying

The police previously warned about the dangers: “It is striking and worrying that such explosives are stored in residential areas, sometimes in bedrooms or rooms with improper wiring. A small static spark can cause a disastrous explosion.”

The 400 cobras have been seized and will be destroyed.

AT5 recently produced the series ‘From factory to porch’ about the impact of explosions in the city, the trade in Cobras and the difficult fight against these illegal fireworks:
