Osama I. (23) from Helmond has to go to prison for 20 months for blowing up an expensive Mercedes in his hometown. The court in Den Bosch also imposed a six-month suspended prison sentence on him on Monday. I. had a fight about borrowed money and reinforced his demand to get that money back by destroying a car with a fire bomb.

That all happened on January 30 in Helmond on the Hobbemalaan. “Next time it’s your house,” said a note left near the car. According to the victim, he had not borrowed 5,000 euros from Osama I. but he tried to extort him.

During the hearing two weeks ago, both parties were diametrically opposed to each other. According to Osama, he had borrowed the 5,000 euros and did not get it back. Osama also had nothing to do with that car that was blown up with a cobra and caught fire, he said. He couldn’t get over the fact that he had been stuck since February 5 ‘for nothing’.

The victim and his mother had the exact opposite story. The son had not borrowed any money from Osama at all. He had just blackmailed him and just demanded money. And as a threat, he had destroyed his mother’s car with the threat of burning down the house next time.

It was difficult for Osama to explain that his fingerprints were found on the bottle containing the flammable liquid. And the threatening letter found matched exactly the way he threatened the victim via messages and videos.

In messages I. had said that ‘this was just a small thing’ and ‘if only you had paid 5K, I would have done nothing’. “I don’t care who lives there, even if it’s a baby.” According to Osama, the victim also proposed to pay 10,000 euros instead of 5,000 euros.

In addition to the prison sentence of 26 months, of which 6 are conditional, Osama is also prohibited from contacting mother and son for the next five years and from coming near their home.
