Chaos at cup game: police intervene

Around 40 fans throw metal poles and seat shells: the police have to intervene at the game in Meerbusch. Six people are injured.
There were massive riots at the Lower Rhine Cup game between FC Büderich and Wuppertaler SV. After the hosts took a 1-0 lead shortly before the end of the game, a group of around 40 WSV supporters stormed the interior of the stadium. As the police report, the rioters used objects such as metal bars, grid elements and seat shells as projectiles.
The emergency services intervened immediately and prevented the conflict from spreading to bystanders. Batons and pepper spray were used. Six people suffered minor eye irritation and had to be treated by emergency services, it said. Police officers were uninjured.
The police temporarily arrested the group to establish their identity and initiated criminal proceedings for breach of the peace. After the measures were completed, the fans were taken by bus Wuppertal brought back. The criminal police are investigating.
