A fire broke out in the Leyhoeve residential care center in Tilburg on Saturday evening. The Safety Region speaks of a ‘very large fire’. The building on Dokter Bloemenlaan is being evacuated.
The fire is developing from the second floor. Hundreds of people, many of whom have difficulty walking, have to be evacuated. The fire brigade and emergency response team are now working on this, but the police have also called up a riot police platoon to help with the evacuation.
The residents are taken to the nearby Van Der Valk Hotel. Nothing is yet known about any injuries or damage.
The Safety Region advises local residents to stay away from smoke and close windows and doors.
