An observant passenger saw that the man had a gun in his bag and contacted the police. They contacted the NS, after which the train was stopped at Purmerend Overwhere station, says a police spokesperson.
Officers wearing bulletproof vests entered the train and took the man away. He’s currently stuck in the station. His weapon has been confiscated and is being destroyed.
Passengers not in danger
The other passengers were not in danger, the spokesperson said. “He had the weapon in his bag, not in his hands. Thanks to the quick response of the NS personnel, as far as we know, no one was in danger.”
