The Crescent and Stars hosted Nigeria in the match played at the Turkcell Basketball Development Center Block A National Teams Hall.
The National Women’s Basketball Team started the first quarter of the match well. While the middle of the period was spent with mutual baskets, the national team made consecutive shots from under the basket and from behind the three-point line. Nigeria recovered and responded to the star and crescent team from the painted area and finished the first quarter ahead 15-14.
The second quarter witnessed a fast-paced game. The Nationals had difficulty stopping their opponent in the painted area. Nigeria entered the locker room with a 45-39 advantage.
Returning from the halftime by scoring consecutive baskets, the National Team took the lead in the 28th minute: 55-54. The Crescent-Stars team was ahead 61-57 in the final period against Nigeria, which lost the ball repeatedly.
While the last quarter of the match was competitive, Nigeria was ahead 76-75 in the last minute. The crescent-star team defeated Nigeria 77-76 with a basket scored from under the basket by Tilbe Şenyürek with 1 second left.
The national team, who had their first test under the management of head coach Andrea Mazzon against Nigeria, will compete in the FIBA 2026 World Cup Qualifiers to be held in Istanbul on March 11-17.
Before the match, a moment of silence was observed for the soldiers who were martyred as a result of the crash of a C130 type military cargo plane on the Georgia-Azerbaijan border.
