The supermarket chain Lidl will open more branches in Galeria department stores in the coming months. “After the branches that have already been built in Berlin on Kurfürstendamm and Hermannplatz, four further locations in Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Viernheim and Stuttgart will follow by the end of 2026,” Lidl announced on Thursday.

The two trading companies announced their “strategic partnership” in autumn 2024. Lidl then opened the first two supermarkets in Galeria stores in Berlin. The conclusion was positive: “These projects show how modern and reliable local supplies can be realized in a central location through intelligent integration into existing buildings,” emphasized Lidl.

According to the plans now announced, the supermarket chain will move into space in the Galeria branch in Hamburg’s Alstertal shopping center before the turn of the year. Over the next year, new openings are planned in Galeria stores in Stuttgart (Königstrasse), Düsseldorf (Schadowstrasse) and Viernheim (Robert-Schuman-Strasse).

“All locations not only have their own entrances, but also individual opening times to enable customers to shop in the Lidl branch at the usual times,” explained the supermarket operator.

The collaboration is part of Galeria’s realignment following the recent insolvency proceedings. The department store operator has also entered into a similar partnership with the sporting goods chain Decathlon, which has now also set up its first stores in Galeria stores.
