After the separation of Markus Schütz and Frank Briel as managing directors of Spielbetriebs-GmbH, TSG Hoffenheim is now also losing its club chairman Jörg Albrecht. The 57-year-old is stepping down with immediate effect for health reasons, the Bundesliga club announced. According to the statutes, the position will initially be taken over by the second chairman Christoph Henssler and the third chairman Frank Engelhardt. According to TSG information, a new board will be elected at an extraordinary general meeting in a few weeks.

“I regret that today I have to give up the position that I accepted and carried out with a lot of passion and commitment,” said Albrecht. “In the last few weeks, however, I have reached the limits of my health, not least due to the immense stress. Therefore, this step is logical and necessary, even if it is extremely difficult for me.”

Just a few days ago, two of four members of the management team, Briel and Schütz, had to leave. Her dismissal was “the result of intensive discussions with everyone involved”. At the end it was mutually agreed to end the collaboration. The trigger for the staff quake was the long-standing dispute with player agent Roger Wittmann, which initially culminated in a stadium and house ban for Wittmann. This was partially overturned by the Heidelberg Regional Court in September.
