In the first half hour in Lisbon there was little danger for either goal. Twente striker Jaimy Ravensbergen had a shooting opportunity in the 33rd minute, but ran into goalkeeper Lena Pauels.
Equalizer Lynn Groenewegen
Benfica took the lead after more than an hour through attacker Martín-Prieto. The Spaniard got the ball after a long pass and Lieske Carleer’s slip and then found the intersection with a hard shot. Lynn Groenewegen made it 1-1 seven minutes later. After a low cross from the right, the midfielder scored in the far corner with a curved ball.
However, a longer stay in the Champions League will be difficult for the team of coach Corina Dekker. With 2 points from three games, Twente is number 13, while the first twelve continue. The club from Enschede still plays against Atlético Madrid (next week), defending champion Arsenal and Real Madrid.
Twente started the Champions League with a nice draw against Chelsea, but unnecessarily lost the second match at OH Leuven.
PSV football players suffer a late home defeat
The PSV football players relinquished a lead in the final phase of the European Cup match with Eintracht Frankfurt. Thanks to goals in the 85th and 90th minute, the Germans still won the first game of the eighth finals in Eindhoven: 1-2.
Belgian Lore Jacobs gave PSV the lead halfway through the first half, which Roeland ten Berge’s team held on to for a long time. Laura Freigang and Remina Chiba ensured the German turnaround at De Herdgang in the final phase.
PSV will have the chance to reach the quarter-finals next week in Frankfurt. The European Cup is the second European club tournament for women and has been in existence since this season.
Ajax women lose 3-1 at home to Hammarby
The Ajax football players lost the first game of the eighth finals of the European Cup with clear scores against Hammarby IF: 1-3. Sweden’s number 2 is therefore the big favorite to secure a place in the last eight at home next week.
Julie Blakstad opened the score at De Toekomst in Amsterdam in the eighteenth minute, followed seven minutes after halftime by Anna Josendal’s 2-0. Ellen Wangerheim made it even more painful for the Amsterdam team, before Jonna van de Velde scored for the home team fifteen minutes before time.
PSV already lost 2-1 at home to Eintracht Frankfurt earlier in the evening.
