Before the Champions League duel between SC Magdeburg, who had no loss points, and the bottom of the group, RK Zagreb, the role of favorites is clearly distributed. Nevertheless, SCM coach Wiegert warns about the upcoming opponent.
“It’s a home game. Joy, energy, carry on” – SCM coach Bennet Wiegert leaves not the slightest doubt before his SC Magdeburg’s handball Champions League game on Wednesday (November 12, 2025, from 8:45 p.m. in the live ticker and can be heard completely live in the SPORT IM OSTEN app) against RK Zagreb.
Zagreb at the bottom of the table
There is not a shadow of a doubt that his team underestimates their opponents. The preliminary group leaders Magdeburg, who have not lost any points so far, will face Zagreb, who are bottom of the table. The Croatians are still without a point in six Champions League games so far. “A difficult Champions League game awaits us. At the level of performance we’re at, Champions League, DHB Cup – there’s nothing left that we can just march past.”
Wiegert warns of the circular runners
When asked about the squad, Wiegert made it clear: “Zagreb actually has a squad that could score points. And somehow they always didn’t succeed.” The SCM coach particularly emphasized the circular game. “Yes, it will be a tough job. As always, we will try to prepare as best we can to take away as much of their strengths as possible.”
SCM focused on Champions League
Zagreb is the undisputed first in the domestic league and recently outclassed its closest rival, HRK Gorica, 40:27. However, things are not going well for the southern Europeans in the Champions League. “We will need everything again on Wednesday and will not be looking at a Flensburg game that everyone wants to give us,” says Wiegert, referring to the Bundesliga clash at the weekend. “The Champions League counts for us. We want to get the next points. We would like to remain unscathed.”
