The number of asylum seekers in Ter Apel did not decrease last weekend. The occupancy in the registration center is not increasing, but the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers (COA) is unable to get below the maximum of 2,000 people.
From Friday to Saturday, 2015 people slept on the site. The two following nights the number was slightly above 2050. Because more than 2,000 people stayed in the reception center again, the COA must again pay 50,000 euros per night to the municipality of Westerwolde, which includes ter Apel.
Because the number of asylum seekers in Ter Apel is consistently above the agreed limit of 2,000, the penalty has now risen to 1.6 million euros.
