In the central bakery of Niels Kossem in Oudeschild, the bakers and pastry chefs do not stand still for a moment these days.
They cannot afford that either, because Texel is the first Dutch municipality this year where Sinterklaas makes his appearance. The children and their parents are expected to line up on the quay next week to welcome Santa.
Hands full
“We have to produce more, more guests are coming to the island. Of course you still make the same products, we just make more,” Kossem explains. “When it became known that the national arrival was coming here, the staff immediately said, let’s make plans.”
Rik is one of the pastry chefs at Timmer bakery. He and his colleagues have their hands full with all the sweets. “Chocolate letters, breast plate, Piet tarts, gingerbread nuts, we are making all kinds of things.”
