The concrete construction, which weighs more than 200 tons, will be slid under the ring next weekend. “If everything goes well, it can slide 10 meters per hour. I think we will have it under the road surface within 3 hours,” said site manager John Roks.

The works are an important step in the redevelopment of the Bruges station area. “Thanks to the new tunnels, cyclists and pedestrians will soon be able to move safely under the ring road,” says Mayor Dirk De fauw. “From the statue of King Albert I, you will be able to cycle towards Sint-Michiels and Sint-Andries without crossing the road. At peak times, up to 2,500 pedestrians per hour now cross the road. That will soon be a thing of the past.”
