How time can be deceiving. On DOGA we hear the first new compositions by Argentinian Juana Molina in eight years. That didn’t seem that long to us. The rework and live albums FORFUN (2019) and ANRMAL (2020) offered stimulating pastimes and the electro singer-songwriter’s music has always been so lasting that no feeling of distance could arise.

Or is this a mirage that will dissipate over time?
This also applies to the ten tracks on this double LP, they embrace, stir up the dust from Juana’s spheres, they come very close and disperse in a typical Molina way. In the meantime, a triple album was planned, but the final work with producer Emilio Haro slimmed down the project to the format now released.
Here, with “Va Rara”, there is a kind of mini-musical that could have been recorded by a chamber music ensemble, with “Uno Es Arbol”, a song that dances on electronics and beats and crawls into the belly of the synths, and a nine-minute finale called “Rina Soi”, in which the artist floats with her voice through a musical haunted house, which is played in seconds by instrumentalists with saxophones and clarinets and noise machines are visited. Or is this a mirage that will dissipate over time?
