In the public session, the chairman of the Electoral Council, Wim Kuijken, confirmed the final election results, which definitively shows that D66 has become the largest party. In addition, Kuijken had harsh words for the municipality of Amsterdam, which, according to him, was ‘really very late’ in counting votes.
“The organization of the election process can really be improved in some municipalities,” Kuijken said. “That was the case in Amsterdam, among others. They were very late, just yesterday.” The results from Amsterdam were supposed to be handed in at the end of the morning yesterday, but did not arrive until around 6 p.m.
‘Handed in at the end of the day’
A spokesperson for the municipality said that the delay was due to a technical malfunction, which caused problems on the server. “It was handed in at the end of the day yesterday, so with a delay of a few hours.”
Kuijken has indicated that he wants to discuss the late election results with the municipality. “We are open to that, I understand that they found it annoying,” the spokesperson said.
