Omar Abdulrahman announced the end of his career today. “Today, full of love and gratitude, I announce my retirement from football after a wonderful journey that lasted many years and was full of challenges and successes,” wrote the 34-year-old offensive player on Instagram. “It has been a journey based on hard work and the support of loyal fans. (…) Today I close this beautiful chapter of my life and begin a new journey.”
Abdulrahman, nicknamed Amoori, is considered one of the biggest football stars in the United Arab Emirates. He played 73 times for the national team (eleven goals), including at the AFC Asian Cup in 2011 and 2015, where he reached third place with the team. Abdulrahman spent most of his career playing for Al-Ain. The Saudi-born ten player moved there from Al-Hilal’s youth ranks, turned professional in 2008, appeared on the pitch 198 times and won the championship four times. In 2018 he returned to Al-Hilal for a year, otherwise he only played in the UAE Pro League, then for Al-Jazira, Shabab Al-Ahli and until February 2024 for Al-Wasl, with whom he became champions again. Most recently, Abdulrahman was without a club for a long time.
