After the end of the 2026 World Cup, the ball will not roll again in the Bundesliga until August 28th. This can be seen from the German Football League’s calendar of events for the coming season. The 2nd Bundesliga and the 3rd League start the 2026/27 season on August 7th. The first round of the DFB Cup will be played from August 21st to 24th. The champions and cup winners will meet in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on August 22nd.
The three top German leagues will go into the winter break on December 20th without having finished the first half of the season. By the end of 2026, the Bundesliga will have 14 match days, the 2nd league will have 16 and the 3rd league will have 18 matchdays. Accordingly, the winter break in the Bundesliga will end on the weekend of January 8th to 10th.
The season ends in the three leagues on the weekend of the 22nd/23rd. May. The DFB Cup final follows a week later on May 29th. Another special feature is that there is no play on the first weekend in May, as May 1st falls on a Saturday. According to an agreement with the security authorities, it is not allowed to play. Another innovation is that the first two international match phases will be combined into a two-week block (September 21st to October 6th). The second international match period runs from November 9th to 17th.
