The Province wants to maintain the quality, safety and experience of the provincial walking and cycling infrastructure and, where necessary, increase it. The regulations are aimed at local authorities and non-profit organizations that are responsible for the sustainable maintenance and renewal of existing facilities. Consider minor renovations, improving busy bicycle axes with safe intersections and refreshing signage, supplemented with accessibility interventions and appropriate green design.

“With this support, we are committed to strengthening our recreational assets,” says Jurgen Vanlerberghe, deputy for Tourism and Recreation. “West Flanders is loved by walkers, cyclists and outdoor recreationists. By investing in the maintenance and renewal of existing paths and infrastructure, we ensure that everyone can continue to enjoy a high-quality and safe environment.”

The approved projects will start in the coming months and will be monitored in close collaboration with local authorities and other partners.
