“We notice that there is still a lot of incorrect information circulating,” says Lotte Van der Stockt of Elia. “There is a rumor that we would expropriate people, but that is not true. Residents who live within a radius of 100 meters will be given the opportunity to sell their home to Elia. That is not an obligation, but a choice.”
In total, about 100 families could sell their homes. Anyone who lives within the 200 meter zone is eligible for financial compensation. A distance of 100 meters applies to companies, provided they can demonstrate that they are suffering commercial damage. “During the information sessions, people can ask all their questions about this,” says Van der Stockt.
