Emergency services received a report around half past two from someone who allegedly saw a person lying in the water. Several fire brigade units and an air ambulance were called.
Police now report that the person who was in the water has died.
Police are investigating the cause of death
It is not clear how the person died. “The identity of the person and whether a crime has been committed are currently being investigated,” police said. A large part of the street is closed.
An 80-year-old man has been missing in Edam for two weeks. He was last seen on October 22. A police spokesperson cannot yet say whether the body found in the water today is that of the man.
