The Netflix documentary about the arrest warrant has drawn attention to an artist who could hardly be more opposite – and yet is now experiencing unexpected admiration among German rap fans: Reinhard Mey’s music is mentioned in “Babo – The Arrest Warrant Story” and is triggering new hype around the 82-year-old songwriter.

Reinhard Mey is actually known for not releasing his songs for such projects, reports “Raptastisch”. Only a personal letter from the director and his manager’s son, who is a big fan of arrest warrants, was able to convince him to release “In My Garden” for the documentary.

Arrest Warrant thanked Mey on Instagram: “’In my Garden’ by Reinhard Mey is in the top 50,” he wrote in an Instagram story. “What particularly touched me was the initial skepticism in Reinhard Mey’s team. They were hesitant to take part in my documentary – understandable, because what they previously found about me online probably aroused more doubt than trust.”

Mey wrote “In My Garden” in 1970 as part of his third studio album FROM MY DIARY. The song was produced by Walther Richter and is considered one of the early highlights of Mey’s career. It’s about love, loss, transience and pain.
The film “Babo – The Arrest Warrant Story” has been on Netflix since October 28th and was produced by Elyas M’Barek (43) and Pacco-Luca Nitsche (41). The film, which shows arrest warrant’s life behind fame and success from its most personal side, also features rap greats such as the now deceased Xatar, but also Celo & Abdi and Jan Delay.
