“The Life of Chuck” is available in home theaters – and ROLLING STONE is giving away the DVD, Blu-ray and the corresponding book to four lucky readers.
The earth has been plagued by natural disasters for months: animals and plants have become extinct, large areas of land are flooded, epidemics are spreading, power grids and communication systems are collapsing: this is how the American tragicomedy “The Life of Chuck” begins. The adaptation of the short story “Chuck’s Life” from Stephen King’s collection of novellas “Bloody News” tells the life of accountant Charles “Chuck” Krantz – backwards.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2024 and won the audience award there. “The Life of Chuck” opened in US cinemas on June 6th and in German cinemas on July 24th, 2025. Now the audience favorite, directed by Mike Flanagan and starring Tom Hiddleston – sometimes dancing – is available in German home cinemas.
The big questions of life
The mystical film between fantasy and science fiction, between humor and melancholy of a tragicomedy á la Stephen King may be about the end of the world – and yet is life-affirming. Because the honest businessman Chuck seems to play a special role in the progress of the world as we know it. Suddenly his face can be seen on billboards and television. But who is this man that no one really seems to know? A mystery that goes back to his childhood with his grandmother (Mia Sara), who passed on her endless love of dancing to him, and his grandfather (Mark Hamill), who initiated him into the secrets of accounting. Can the fate of one individual change the entire world? asks the film. The work moves viewers in a refreshing way to think about life, death and the meaning of existence, said critics at the cinema release.
“‘The Life of Chuck’ wants you to feel the pure wonder of life, and is willing to hammer that blissful idea into our heads over and over again just to make sure we get the emotional core,” said the American ROLLING STONE. At times simplistic and banal, Hiddleston still conveys the idea of how the ordinary can become extraordinary, the magazine said.
This is how you can win
If you want to hear answers to the film’s big and small questions, you could win a DVD, a Blu-ray and the book that tells Chuck’s story. ROLLING STONE is giving away the collections to four lucky winners.
