The Dutch Juniors have done good business in the battle for a European Championship ticket. In Deventer, a crucial game was won 2-0 against leader Young Switzerland. Substitute Elayis Tavsan was the big man with two hits on the side of the Dutch Juniors, which at that time was one man less due to an unfortunate red card from Wouter Burger.

It was not easy for the Dutch Juniors. Erwin van de Looi’s team had the most and best chances, but was unable to score. In the first half, another goal by Thomas Buitink was disallowed for offside. Also in the second half were the best opportunities for the Dutch Juniors, but just when the game seemed to fall in the Orange’s way, Burger was sent off with his second yellow card. However, there was not much going on and the map was mainly due to the yelling and screaming from the Swiss camp.

In the 69th minute, debutant Tavsan came on for the injured Joshua Zirkzee. Barely six minutes later, the NEC attacker hit the mark when he was well positioned at the far post on a pass from Kenneth Taylor and was able to score the 1-0. Two minutes later, he shot the ball out of goalkeeper Amir Saipi’s reach with his left. It turned out to be the final blow.

Three more qualifying matches are scheduled for the Dutch Juniors, one more than Young Switzerland. If Erwin van de Looi’s team manages to win all matches, the team is certain to participate in the European Championship under 21. The two best numbers 2 also continue, the other teams in second place have to complete the play-offs.
