Entrepreneurs in Koekange have been calling for an industrial estate near the village for some time. Expansion is often not possible and there is no room for starters. Today during Open Business Day they are making their wish known again.
A number of entrepreneurs are receiving visitors today to talk about their work. Hilco Scheper is one of them: “I have an installation company and ensure that everything runs smoothly. From electricity to water and gas.”
He joined the initiative to show that local businesses are important to the village. “We hope that this will remain the case in the future. But then additional land will be needed for starters and companies that want to expand.”
Freddy Braakman, chairman of the business association in Koekange, underlines those words. “We have been trying to get this done for years,” he responds. And the municipality of De Wolden has listened to those signals.
The municipality is currently conducting research into a suitable location. “We see that there are quite a few entrepreneurs throughout our municipality, and therefore also in Koekange. There is a need for extra space for companies here and we want to help with that,” said councilor Gerrie Hempen (Municipal Interests).
Sometime next year a possible location will be announced and submitted to local politicians.
