Baron built a long career as a criminal lawyer and was active in Ypres municipal politics for many years. He served on the municipal council for eighteen years, including twelve years as alderman, until he left politics in 2018 to make more time for his family.
In recent years he has struggled with health problems, but has continued to work as a lawyer to a limited extent. Baron is survived by his wife Catherine Lamaire, two children and grandchildren.
