Just three years after the 2025 final, the Champions League final is likely to be held again in Munich.
Germany and the Bavarian capital are the only interested parties for the most important game in European club football in spring 2028. According to the European Football Union, the expression of interest is not binding – Munich still has to submit official application documents and a final concept by June 2026.
The game will then be awarded by the UEFA Executive Committee in September 2026 – at the same time as other men’s and women’s European Cup finals.
Sixth Premier class final in Munich?
Just last May, Paris Saint-Germain won the Champions League final against Inter Milan 5-0 at the Allianz Arena. The stadium in the north of Munich was previously the venue for the “Finale at home”, which FC Bayern lost to Chelsea in 2012. Three finals in the premier class had previously taken place in the Munich Olympic Stadium.
The Champions League final of the current season will take place in Budapest, and a year later it will be the turn of Atlético Madrid’s Estadio Metropolitano. For 2029, London with Wembley Stadium and the recently converted Camp Nou in Barcelona have already expressed interest.
