Shortly before the end of the transfer period, FC Bayern signed Nicolas Jackson. So far, the striker hasn’t been able to convince everyone.
Lothar Matthäus still has some doubts about Bayern newcomer Nicolas Jackson. In a podcast from the “Bild” newspaper, the 64-year-old said: “He doesn’t get much playing time, and when he played, he seemed a bit like a foreign body.” Other players would be less negative: “With Olise, Kane, Diaz, Kimmich, Pavlović, the ball runs. With him it always gets stuck a little or in terms of passing, he’s not that sharp yet.”
Jackson came to Munich from Chelsea on September 1st. Bayern loaned the Senegalese for a year, paying 13 million euros for one season. There is also a purchase option in the contract, which becomes an obligation to purchase under certain conditions. It is unlikely that Jackson will fulfill this requirement. In September, Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß revealed in the Sport1 “double pass”: “That only has to be paid if he plays 40 games from the start – he never does.”
Jackson currently has ten appearances for Bayern, four from the start. He has not yet scored a goal in the Bundesliga, he has only scored in the Champions League. “He’s still a young player and had a good goal rate at Chelsea. He needs playing time. If he only comes in for a few minutes at a time, it will be difficult for him to be self-confident,” analyzed Matthäus.
According to the record national player, there is no improvement in sight: “The problem at Bayern Munich now is: If Musiala comes back – a player who has his regular place up front – then Jackson’s playing times could be even shorter.”
